The Technology Certificate Courses
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Computers
Instructor: Sue Way
Summer 2009
I thought I already knew a lot about the Microsoft Suite, but this course broadened my knowledge and my ability to teach children how to use word processing programs, spreadsheets, and presentation software. We worked primarily with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and the Internet. My Word (digital newsletter) and PowerPoint (Open House presentation) projects were created to be used for parent/teacher communication. My Excel project (EDM Assessment Record) was used in my district as a place for teachers to input grades, make sense of them with graphs, and encourage mastery teaching. I concluded the course with my Personal Learning Reflection.
I still use the Parent Night PowerPoint at Curriculum Night at the beginning of the year. I just update the pictures and procedures each year. However, I do not use the digital newsletter in Word anymore because I use my classroom website instead. In addition, my district no longer uses the Excel Spreadsheet. We currently do not have a way to keep track of those scores.

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Instructor: Sue Wright
Summer 2009
The main focus of this class was the adaptation of technology within education. I re-purposed what was already in place for an educational use. Within this class, I created a WebQuest on the Water Cycle and a StAIR (Stand-Alone Instructional Resource) on Wants vs. Needs to use for Science and Social Studies. I used these two resources with my 2nd grade general education and English Language Learners to extend vocabulary, review concepts, and encourage collaboration. I also documented my learning in my Personal Learning Reflection.

Projects
Though I do not currently use these projects with my 4th graders because my curriculum has changed, I am appreciative of the experience I had creating them so I have the confidence and know-how to apply the skills I learned in CEP 811 to the projects I create today. |

CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Problems of Practice
Instructor: Chuck Commeret
Summer 2011
Throughout this course, I created many different individual and group projects. I am so glad I blogged about my CEP 812 experience (check out my blog) because I did so many worthwhile projects to reflect on my practice. Everything completed is based on TPACK. As I look back, I feel like I pushed myself to use more tech tools in this course than possibly any other. In doing so, many of my ideas about "change" changed. Check out my Intro to Mary Wever too!

Professional Learning Project
My Professional Learning Plan is all about that important word, change. I pushed myself to use Glogster to present my plan because I have an account, but I’ve never used the program. I used Audacity to record my voice, I then used Jing to capture screen shots to show some changes in my communication over time, and I added a great song that always makes me smile. What a fun program to use! I hope that you will see that I have changed my delivery many times over the past 3 years. In turn, my Professional Learning Plan is that I will educate myself, try out new things, and change along with the times. Check out my project reflection. You can check out the most recent version of my "classroom newsletter" as the homepage of my classroom website. |

Wicked Problem Project
The focus of this project was to pick a problem I saw in my classroom and think of a way to accommodate students' learning with technology. With the Wicked Problem Project, I show that by using the eReaders (Kindles), I am not changing the way I teach. Instead, I am enhancing the time that students would normally read independently by offering a tool that can make their choices more private. In addition, the book can be individually customized to each child’s preferences and be read aloud for those struggling readers or English Language Learners. The content and pedagogy remain constant while the technology is used to enhance learning. You can get a better insight into my thinking and planning by reading my blog and checking out my Wicked Problem Project Design Template. |
Group Leadership Project
I have to start by saying, "GO TEAM ELEMENTARY!" I worked with a hardworking group of girls to create a tutorial on how to use Prezi. We used Vyew as a place to chat online to discuss our project, Camtasia Studio to record everything, Google Docs to collaborate and storyboard, and Prezi to do the conclusion. The final product is hosted by Screencast.com. We all went out of our comfort zones to come up with a project that is creative, informative, resourceful, and useful. There were many steps listed in my blog, but check out our online discussion using Vyew, our notes and storyboard in Google Docs, and our conclusion using Prezi. Overall, we came up with a well thought out and thorough tutorial that can be used by educators or students. |
