Who am I? I’m a wife, mommy, teacher, techie, proud Michigander, and friend
I was born in Lansing, and although I’ve lived in many different houses, I’ve lived in this area for almost my entire life. There are a few exceptions though. My family moved to Kansas when I was 4 for my dad’s first teaching job, but we moved back a year later. So I grew up going to DeWitt and Grand Ledge schools.
When I was 21, I thought I’d try moving again, so one of my best friends and I packed up my car and moved to L.A. We lived in an apartment in West Hollywood off from Sunset Blvd, and I worked in a restaurant in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive. Though this was a blast as a 21 year old, I knew I needed to finish school, so I came back to Michigan and worked as a Graphic Designer while finishing my English degree at MSU. After living here for a few years, getting married and having my first son Kaleb, I decided to go back to college for my teaching certificate at Spring Arbor University. While there, I got to listen to our very own Bob Ulrich and Mindy Emerson talk fondly of Red Cedar. I was intrigued and decided to send Kaleb there for Kindergarten. But wait, there is one more big move first. Brad and I decided to take Kaleb and Collin, our second son, to Texas for my first teaching job. So, again, we packed up a U-Haul and moved across the country to League City, TX (it’s a nice area with palm trees and NASA between Houston and Galveston). We lived there for almost a school year when Brad was offered his dream job back in Lansing. Again, fate and homesickness brought us back to Michigan and we’ve been here since. Thank goodness we came back because now I am working in East Lansing with the best bunch of kids the world has to offer, and it’s a great place to raise our 3rd son, Jacob. Since being back, I finished my Master's in Educational Technology (MAET) at MSU where I'm now teaching courses too! I have started presenting (mostly about ed tech, writing, and classroom design), and continue extending my PLN with positive and creative people who extend my knowledge and encourage me to try new things to help students succeed. I truly have the best family and friends around! Moving away has made me appreciate what Michigan has to offer. From tubing down the Platt River after visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes to bopping around Greektown before going to a Tigers game, I love to travel around our beautiful state to experience what Michigan has to offer. My family loves to snowmobile, go to water parks, visit our cabin up north at Bear Lake, and just spend time together sitting by a bonfire or playing games. I have passions for art, technology, family time, comedy, and fun! You can follow me on Twitter @WeverWorld |
